Period 3---ELD Reading 1 (2018)

The purpose and goal of this class is to help accelerate students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language skills to grade-level proficiency by the end of the year.  Through focused and accelerated instruction, the ELD class will provide students with 5 essential goals:

1. Depending on students’ reading level, they will receive systematic and explicit phonics instruction and word study strategies that will enable them to read grade-leveled text as rapidly as possible

2. Comprehension instruction and strategies that will help them make meaning from text

3. Fluency instruction and practice that will increase automaticity and improve comprehension

4. Grammar instruction to help students communicate clearly through writing, reading, and speaking

5. Writing strategies to help students develop clear and coherent writing
