Dear El Capitan Community,
My name is Brent Dettman, and It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter to you as the incoming principal of El Capitan Middle School. It is truly an honor to become a part of the El Capitan family and community. Even though I have only had limited interactions with the faculty and parents, I can already tell that it is a special place to be.
The 2019-2020 school year will mark my 14th year in education, all serving the Central Unified School District. I spent 7 years teaching both middle school and high school at Pershing Continuation High School. Most recently, I was the Vice Principal at Central High School, West Campus where I was able to develop strong relationships with staff, parents, students, and community partners. I will work hard to do the same at El Capitan and together we will focus on data-driven instruction and social and emotional growth, while providing exciting and challenging learning opportunities for our Eagles.
One of our focuses this year at El Capitan is to ensure that each student attends school every day. We do realize that sometimes absences cannot be avoided due to health issues or unforeseen circumstances. However, we also know that when a student misses too much school, it can result in them falling behind academically. Please contact us and let us know if we can help support you and your child so that they can be successful. The school phone number is (559) 276-5270.
I am truly honored to be given this opportunity and I look forward to meeting you. Please know that my door is always open and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share. During the course of the school year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide our students with the best opportunities to prepare them for college, career, and community. I look forward to celebrating our successes during the 2019-2020 school year.
Mr. Brent Dettman
Principal, El Capitan Middle School
